Michels received her bachelor of science degree
in chemistry from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and her
master’s of science and doctoral degree in analytical
chemistry from Iowa State University. Before coming to Dana,
she taught chemistry at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.,
and before that, was a research chemist at Phillips Petroleum
in Bartlesville, Okla.
She will continue to teach parttime in the Chemistry Department.
Michels’s appointment as interim provost and dean of
the college will be made effective June 1, 2005. She succeeds
Dr. Brian Viets, whose term ends June 15.
