Dana’s Professor of the Year is chosen
by a vote of the entire student body. Recipients must have
demonstrated excellence in teaching, positive interpersonal
relationships, organization and classroom management, intellectual
stimulation and desirable behavior outside the classroom. Professors
who have received the award within the past five years are
not eligible.
Brewer has been teaching at Dana since 2003. He earned his
bachelor’s in history and master’s in anthropology
from Brigham Young University. He earned his doctoral degree
in international history from University at Albany, State University
of New York. He previously served as a visiting assistant professor
in the department of history at Rhodes College in Memphis,
Tenn.
This summer, Brewer will complete the manuscript for his book,
Borders and Bridges: A History of U.S.-Latin American Relations.
His next project involves writing a chapter, based on archival
research in Spain and Guatemala, for a forthcoming publication
by the University of Florida Press on the Ch’orti’ Maya
of early colonial Guatemala between 1524 and 1825.
