Dr. Janet Philipp is greeted with a standing ovation as the next president of Dana College.

Dr. Janet Philipp is named new college president

Dr. Janet Philipp was named the new President of Dana College in Blair, Neb., today by the Dana College Board of Regents. Philipp will begin her presidency July 1, 2005.

“ Dana College is currently riding a wave of positive momentum. Enrollment is increasing, enthusiasm is high and the Dana community is energetically engaged in implementing Dana’s vision of growth, academic excellence, fiscal responsibility and spiritual development. We are pleased that Dr. Philipp has agreed to serve as Dana College’s 17th president,” said Dennis Gethmann, search committee chairman and Dana College regent. “By her unanimous election, the Board of Regents is making a strong statement that Dr. Philipp has the talent, experience and drive to maintain Dana College’s momentum and take the college successfully forward to its 125th anniversary in 2009.”

Philipp has spent the last five years as the liberal arts dean and campus executive officer at the University of Wisoconsin—Rock County in Janesville, Wis. Philipp also previously held positions at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, as vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college. She has her doctoral degree in education from the University of South Dakota, a master’s degree in family and community health nursing from Creighton University and a bachelor’s of science in nursing and a bachelor’s of science in psychology from the University of Dubuque.

“ I am honored and excited to be named the president of Dana College, especially as Dana looks to its 125th anniversary in a few short years. The call to serve Dana is an extension of the work I’ve done in the church through my service as a regent of Wartburg Theological Seminary and my husband Frank’s work as a parish pastor and hospital chaplain. We look forward to becoming acquainted with the people of Blair and the community of Omaha — both to share the story of Dana College and to look for partnerships in this higher education endeavor,” Philipp said.

Dana College is a place where all students actively participate. They make things happen — in their own lives and in the lives of others. Through a highly supportive faculty and campus community, Dana students develop interpersonal skills, leadership abilities, and other important values and knowledge as they make choices about their future.
