Dana College Chorale to Present Spring Concert May 13, 14
The Dana College Chorale will wrap up its 2005-06 season
with a spring concert featuring selections from one of the world’s
most popular and well-known cantatas, Carmina Burana. Performances
will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 13, and Sunday, May 14, in Trinity
Chapel, located in the Durham Center on the Dana College Campus.
The public is cordially invited to this free event.
Carmina Burana, composed in 1937 by Carl Orff of Germany, is based
on a collection of 13th-century songs and poetry celebrating spring,
tavern life and love. The opening movement of the work, O Fortuna,
has been used in many movies and advertisements.
The concert will feature solo performances by Nick Albrecht, Joy
Augustine and Katie Spicka of Omaha; Joe Blackstad of Andover, Minn.;
and Kirk Schjodt and Kori Williamsen of Blair.
Providing musical accompaniment will be Jacque Benson of Woodbine,
Iowa, Erin Youngblood and Sean Tyler of Omaha, Heidi Essay of Lincoln,
and Evan Engel of Pocahontas, Iowa, on percussion; Clare Cowing,
Dana accompanist, and Laurice Hansen of Hampton on piano; Carla Clark
of Milford on the flute; Williamsen on the trumpet; and Tregan Albers
of Davenport on the tuba.
