DANA OFFERS SPECIAL PROGRAMS FOR
NICF VISIT WEEK
Prospective students can register to win
a scholarship, Aug. 2–6
Hundreds of prospective college students will descend
on Dana College and the other campuses of Nebraska’s private
colleges as part of Nebraska Independent College Week.
Earlier this year, Governor Mike Johanns officially
proclaimed Aug. 2–6 as Nebraska Independent College Week and
urged all high school students and their parents to personally visit
the participating institutions during this week to discover for
themselves the quality of educational opportunities offered and
the affordability of attending a private college.
During Nebraska Independent College Week, visiting
prospective students to Dana and the other schools can register
to win a $500 scholarship. Two orientation sessions will be held
daily during the week at Dana and the other campuses — one
at 9 a.m., and a second at 1:30 p.m. At the campus visit, students
will spend time with faculty, staff, coaches and current college
students, and will learn about Dana’s varied academic, athletic
and organizational offerings. Representatives from local student
loan organizations will also be available during this week.
Eleven of Nebraska’s 14 private colleges and
universities, all members of the Nebraska Independent College Foundation
(NICF), are participating in the week, including Dana, Bellevue
University, College of Saint Mary, Concordia University, Doane College,
Grace University, Hastings College, Midland Lutheran College, Nebraska
Wesleyan University, Union College and York College.
Nebraska’s 14 independent colleges and universities
make a significant impact on the state. Last year, these colleges
and universities enrolled more than 22,000 students, including approximately
70 percent from Nebraska. As a group, these institutions are the
fifth-largest employer in the state, and total spending in 2004
is estimatd to add more than $1 billion to the state’s economy.
