DANA GETS TOGETHER FOR CAMPUS BEAUTIFICATION DAY

Volunteers raised $646 and put in
172 volunteer hours for Thrivent matching program

Forty-one Dana College faculty, staff and students volunteered to help make physical improvements during Dana’s Campus Beautification Day, this spring. The project was partly funded by the Dana community’s own financial contributions, as well as matching funds from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, a fraternal benefit society. Dana also received $500 from Aramark Corp. to help fund the day.

The Dana volunteers put in 172 hours of volunteer work painting, weeding and removing litter and limbs from the campus grounds. Funds were used to buy paint, shovels, rakes, a blower/vacuum, an electric trimmer and several trees.

“With the tree limbs and trash pickup, mowing is much easier campuswide,” said Wendy Grasz, administrative assistant for facilities management and the business office, and campus coordinator for the event. “The new equipment will help make work more productive in many areas.”

Dana employees contributed $646 to buy materials for the day. Combined with Aramark’s gift, this allowed the event planners to apply for $1,000 of matching funds from Thrivent.
