Dr. Peggy Holloway will lead a discussion and perform the
composer’s
work
Dr. Peggy Holloway, assistant professor of music, will present
a lecture/recital
at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Dana College’s Trinity Chapel. The
topic will be “The Art Songs of Marion Bauer.”
Bauer, who lived
between 1882 and 1955, was the subject of Holloway’s doctoral
dissertation and remains a continuing area of scholarly research. Holloway
contributed the biographical information on Bauer to the series Women Composers:
Music Through
the Ages, which included Holloway’s editions of six of Bauer’s
previously unpublished songs.
In July, Holloway joined Dr. David King,
pianist, and Dr. Janet Morrow King, mezzo-soprano, both of Colorado State
University, to record 28
art songs
by Marion Bauer. The recording sessions took place at the University
of Northern Colorado
in Greeley. Holloway is currently working with Leonarda Records to
master and produce a compact disc on the Leonarda label.
Holloway’s
lecture/recital will include a discussion of the fascinating
life and work of Marion Bauer and a performance of representative
songs from the new compact disc. Clare Cowing, campus accompanist,
will be
the pianist
for this event.
The event is free and the public is warmly invited
to attend.
