KIDS ON THE HILL LETS AREA YOUTH GET A TASTE FOR COLLEGE

Annual Dana College event introduces 1-8 graders to college life

Dana College will host its annual Kids on the Hill event at 8 a.m., Sept. 27, on the college’s campus in Blair, Neb. The event is designed to introduce first through eighth graders to what college life is like in a fun morning of events. Kids on the Hill is free to all participants, and parents are strongly encouraged to attend with their children.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. in the Borup Coliseum Addition. At 8:30 a.m., there will be a fun run/walk on the Addition’s new walking track or on the track surrounding Viking Field. Registration ends at 9 a.m. All participants’ parents must sign a permission form during the registration time.

On a campus tour provided by Dana Diplomats, kids get to see what a college looks like, from multimedia classrooms to real residence hall rooms. Head Men’s Basketball Coach Chris Fear will teach a short clinic on basketball. Participants will be divided by age and the clinic is designed to be fun for all interest levels and abilities. Members of the Dana College Theatre will help kids get in touch with their thespian sides in a special session. All participants will also build their own web page they can show friends later.

A free lunch is provided for all Kids on the Hill participants, catered by Dana’s award-winning food services. During lunch, Student Activities Director Lisha Palm will host a special fun event similar to the kinds of events hosted by Student Activities for real Dana students.

Kids on the Hill officially ends at 1 p.m., but all participants are invited to be Dana’s guests at the Dana-Doane College game following the event. There will be a special contest with prizes at halftime for Kids on the Hill participants.
