Mbunda is senior lecturer at the University
of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. He is visiting Nebraska as part
of the Fulbright Visiting Specialist Program: Direct Access
to the Muslim World, sponsored by the Bureau of Educational
and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State,
and administered by the Council for International Exchange
of Scholars. The program is designed to promote understanding
of the Muslim World and civilization by providing opportunities
for U.S. higher educational institutions to host specialists
from the Muslim World for short-term programs of intensive
lecturing and public outreach.
In addition to his duties as a professor, Mbunda serves as
an advocate of the High Court of Tanzania. He has participated
in several international conferences on human rights, African
development, law, globalization and refugees. His published
works, include “The Support Structure Theory and Its
Implication in Securing Basic Rights in Tanzania,” in
Taking Stock of Human Rights Situation in Africa; “Does
the Law in Tanzania Protect Street Children? An appraisal of
the Legal Regime Governing Street Children,” in Poverty,
AIDS and Street Children in East Africa; and “The Bill
of Rights. Strategies and Protection and Promotion of Fundamental
Rights and Freedoms in Multi-Party Tanzania,” in Constitutional
Reforms and Democratic Governance in Tanzania, as well as others.
His dissertation, “Freedom of Speech and Association.
A Study of Rights and Constitutional Development in Tanzania” was
published by Howell Publications of Michigan in 1999.
