Former baseball and basketball star added to list of Viking
greats, Sept. 30
Bryan Traylor of Omaha, Neb., will receive
Dana College’s highest alumni
honor for athletics Sept. 30 in Blair, Neb., when the college names him to
its Athletic Hall of Fame at a special ceremony held as part
of Homecoming festivities.
Honorees are nominated for their
excellence in athletics while attending Dana.
In Traylor’s case, his performance winning eight varsity letters for
the Vikings was a determining factor.

In the early 1970s, Bryan Traylor led not one,
but two, Viking teams. From 1970 to 1974, he started four years
on the Dana Baseball team and three years for the Basketball
squad, earning a total of eight varsity letters. In 1974, he
shared the Rufus Olsen Award for Outstanding Dana Athlete of
the Year and was a member of the Outstanding Athletes of America
listing in 1973 and 1974. These honors were on top of his numerous
All-Conference honors for both baseball and basketball.
By the time Traylor graduated in 1974 with a degree in accounting,
he had also accumulated several Dana College records. In basketball
he held the records for most points in a season and career;
most free throws made, and attempted, in a game, season and
career; and highest field goal percentage made in a single
game. In baseball, Traylor held records for most put-outs,
assists and attempts in a season; most stolen bases in a season;
most hits in a double-header and highest batting average for
a utility player.
Originally from Council Bluffs, Iowa (Abraham Lincoln High),
Traylor works as a financial analyst for BAE Systems. He and
his wife, Debi live in Omaha. He is the father of two sons,
Ryan, 24, and Shawn, 21.
