Group to help celebrate Hans Christian Andersen’s 200th birthday

A touring theater troupe from Denmark will be on stage at Dana College for a special performance Thursday, Oct. 13, at 7:30 p.m.

The performance is part of the worldwide celebration of the 200th birthday of Denmark’s most-renowned storyteller, Hans Christian Andersen. “The Hans Christian Andersen Parade,” directly from Andersen’s hometown of Odense, Denmark, will appear in the Dana Hall of Science Auditorium on Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m.

Adult admission is $5. Children accompanied by a parent are free. Tickets will be available at the door. Dana students, faculty and staff can get in free with ID.

“We are excited to be able to host this very special group,” said Carrie L. Reed, director of college relations and marketing at Dana College. “I had the privilege to see the performance on stage in Denmark a few years ago. Children of all ages are in for a treat.”
The cast of 25 actors, ranging in age from 10 to 19, will present scenes from such well-known tales as “The Ugly Duckling,” “The Little Match Girl,” and “The Emperor’s New Clothes.”

The Hans Christian Andersen Parade performs more than 250 times each year in Denmark. This is their first United States tour.
The group will be staying with host families in Blair during their visit and will make a special performance at the Blair Public Schools on Oct. 14.

Dana College is a national sponsor for the tour. Patron sponsors who are helping make this performance possible are Phil and Florence Larsen, John and Ginny Beck, Bob and Joan Krogh, Tim and Sharon Jensen, and the family of Laura Lorsch.
