BROADWAY HIT "SEUSSICAL"
COMES TO DANA
Bright colors and colorful
cast sure to entertain all ages
The Dana College Theater will be one of the first in Nebraska to
produce the Broadway hit "Seussical: The Musical." Performances
are at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 8–9 and Oct. 15–16, with additional
matinee performances on Sunday, Oct. 10 and Sunday, Oct. 17 at 2
p.m. in the Lauritzen Theatre in the Madsen Fine Arts Center. Tickets
are $5.
"Seussical" is a contemporary re-imagining of Dr. Seuss,
which weaves together many of his most famous stories and characters
in unexpected ways. The musical creates the witty, wild and whimsical
world of Dr. Seuss as it has never been seen before. When chaos
erupts in the Jungle of Nool, it will take The Cat in the Hat (Joe
Blackstad, Andover, Minn.), Horton the Elephant (Kirk Schjodt, Blair,
Neb.), Gertrude McFuzz (Lindsay Van Horn, Omaha, Neb.) and a gaggle
of characters to bring harmony back to their world. The score includes
pop, gospel, blues and R & B.
Paul Schneider, professor of English and director of theater, said
the production should appeal to all ages, and is a great way to
introduce pre-school children to theater at a reasonable price.
Bright colors in the scenery and imaginative costumes will help
keep young audience members enthralled in the story.
Guest director Brandon Higdem will lead a talented cast of Dana
College students in this fun-for-all-ages romp. Higdem has previously
directed “Das Barbecue,” “Brighton Beach Memoirs,”
“Clue:The Musical,” “Parallel Lives,” and
“The Dinner Party” at the Omaha Community Playhouse.
The production is produced by Professor Paul Schneider, professor
of English and director of theater at Dana. Last year, Higdem directed
an acclaimed versions of “Grease” and “Into the
Woods” for Dana College Theater. He said he is excited to
be back working with Dana’s talented students.
