DANA PUTS ON WHOLE NEW WEB FACE

New dana.edu boasts better look and navigation, plus daily updates

The Dana College web site has a whole new look.
Dana's new web site (still located at www.dana.edu) brings a more updated and dynamic design to the college's web presence.

"We want our site to be a way for people off campus to feel like they are an active part of the Dana community," said Carrie Reed, director of college relations and marketing. To do this, the site was redesigned for easier navigation and a cleaner layout, Reed said.

"We're also going to make keeping the site current a major priority," Reed said. A new button on the home page takes viewers directly to a news page updated daily with events and happenings around campus. The new athletic pages have game or event scores and/or summaries posted soon after the competition's completion.

Sections of the site are also be tailored to specific audience groups. For instance, alumni are able to find out about upcoming gatherings and reunions quicker and easier. General information about the college is clearer and easier for prospective students to access. And parents will be able to learn what's going on at Dana on a day-by-day basis.

All these audiences, as well as current students, have specific rollover buttons on the home page. A pull-down menu, rather than a long list of links, will allow visitors to get to specific departments. Other than that, links directly on the home page are limited to prevent confusion.

"We found with our current site that having too many links on a page made it harder — not easier — to use the site," Reed said. "People don't think in alphabetical order. By dividing the site into more general links that lead to more specific ones the new site will be a lot easier to navigate."

Dana College is a private, liberal arts institution that currently enrolls approximately 600 students. The campus is located on 150 acres overlooking the Missouri River Valley in Blair, Neb. Dana grants bachelor’s degrees in more than 20 liberal arts, business, education and pre-professional programs, with an emphasis on personalized teaching from experience and dedicated faculty. Dana is affiliated with the Nebraska Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and its athletic teams compete in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
