DR. RODNEY WEAD RETIRES FROM DANA
BOARD OF REGENTS
Social worker served for 12
years
Dr. Rodney Wead of St. Louis retired from the Board
of Regents of Dana College recently, after serving for 12 years.
Dr. Wead is best known as the president/CEO of Grace Hill Heighborhood
Services.
The Board is elected to set the strategic direction
and policy of Dana, set goals and long-range plans, insure financial
solvency and provide tools to the administration to enable the administration
to manage the institution.
A 1957 graduate of Dana, Wead went on to earn a Ph.D.
in sociology from Union Graduate School of Experimenting Colleges
in Cincinnati. He has also served as an assistant professor and
associate professor at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and Creighton
University, respectively.
Wead’s other achievements include serving as
executive director of the United Methodist Community Centers, Inc.,
in Omaha, Neb. (1968-74, 1983-91) and associate executive director
of the Community Renewal Society of Chicago (1974-83). He was awarded
Man of the Year by the Native Omahans for 1990-91, the Malcom X
Award in 1991, the Omaha Public School Black Caucus Award in 1991
and the Urban League Guild Award in 1987.
Other retirees this year from the Board were Thomas
Lippincott of Blair, Neb., Dr. Paul H. Laursen of Lincoln, Neb.,
and the Rev. Carl F. Schattauer, Jr. of Omaha, Neb.
“This group of Board members have been a joy
to work with,” said Dr. Myrvin F. Christopherson, president
of Dana College. “They love Dana. They have exercised good
judgment, and have been willing to take risks to assure that Dana
grows in quality of services, facilities, and people. We shall miss
them. Happily, they have all been voted emeritus status by their
colleagues so they will continue to serve Dana in an advisory capacity
as they are able for many years to come.”
Dana College is a private, liberal arts institution
that currently enrolls approximately 600 students. The campus is
located on 150 acres overlooking the Missouri River Valley in Blair,
Neb. Dana grants bachelor’s degrees in more than 20 liberal
arts, business, education and pre-professional programs, with an
emphasis on personalized teaching from experienced and dedicated
faculty. Dana is a college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
