LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL COUNCIL MEMBERS
ATTEND REGIONAL CONFERENCE
250 area youth converged
on Dana College for annual convention
Nearly 250 high school student council members, from
15 eastern Nebraska school districts, came to Dana College in Blair,
Neb., for the District V Fall Convention on Oct. 7. The convention
is a time for student council members to meet each other, learn
more about leadership from special sessions and vote on which students
will represent the region at the statewide convention later this
year.
Blair and Arlington high schools co-hosted the event
and used the campus of Dana College for their location. Besides
their leadership-themed sessions, students were welcomed by Dana
College President Dr. Myrvin Christopherson and enjoyed a keynote
presentation by Dana’s Dr. Therese Michels. Michels emphasized
the power and importance of science with a speech loaded with special
eye-catching experiments.
Many of the activities took place in Dana’s
brand-new athletic facility, the Gardner-Hawks Center. The convention
was the first outside group to use the facility, with its state-of-the-art
sound system and multi-use spaces.
Schools attending the conference were: Archbishop
Bergan, Arlington, Blair, Cedar Bluffs, Cedar Rapids, David City,
Fremont, Highplains, Loganview, Oakland-Craig, Rising City, Saint
Edward, Schuyler, Scribner and Shelby.
Dana College is a private, liberal arts institution
