DANA STUDENT ATHLETES ATTEND NAIA
CHARACTER SUMMIT
Students focus on Champions
of Character program
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics
(NAIA) and the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) teamed up
for a Champions of Character summit on Thursday, Oct. 28 at Morningside
College in Sioux City, Iowa.
Bruce Brown, the NAIA’s Champions of Character
special presenter, was the featured speaker and facilitator for
the summit. Student-athletes, coaches and administrators from all
13 GPAC member schools participated in this character-development
program sponsored by the NAIA and endorsed by its member institutions
and conferences.
“As members of the NAIA, the Champions of Character
initiative is very important to the GPAC, and this presentation
will benefit all thirteen of our member institutions,” said
Corey Westra, GPAC commissioner.
Brown and NAIA Champions of Character have shared
the spotlight with some nationally renowned coaches in the past
few weeks at leadership and character summits hosted by NAIA member
schools. Brown and NAIA Champions of Character Director Rob Miller
shared the podium with Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski on
Sept. 21 at a leadership seminar at the College of the Ozarks in
Point Lookout, Mo. On Oct. 5, Brown conducted a character-development
seminar for high school athletes at Fresno Pacific University that
also featured former San Francisco 49’ers coach Bill Walsh.
Dana College student athletes attending the summit
included: Cathy Buchmeier, Tyler Sayler, Tom Lensch, Michelle Simon,
Brooke McCabe, and Nicole Hull. Campus Character Representative
Leslie Rasmussen and Viking Elite Student Athletes Coordinator Pat
Morris attend the summit as Dana College staff.
