DANA SOFTBALL HOSTS EARLY BIRD CLINICS IN JANUARY

Sessions on pitching and skills will enhance players' abilities

The Dana College softball team is proud to host four clinics during the winter months for players in fourth through 12th grades.

Pitching clinics will be held Jan. 9 in Borup Coliseum. Fourth through eighth graders will go from 9 a.m. to noon. Ninth through 12th graders will have theirclinic from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Borup Coliseum.

In the pitching clinics, the basic fundamentals of pitching will be emphasized. For more advanced pitchers, specialty pitches will be covered. The mental aspect of pitching will be addressed throughout the clinic as well. Pitchers must provide their own catcher. Video cameras are allowed.

General softball skills clinics will be held on Jan. 23 in Borup Coliseum. Fourth through eighth graders will go from 9 a.m. to noon. Ninth through 12th graders will run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

In the skills clinics, both defense and offense will be taught and refined. Topics covered will include hitting, bunting, base running, throwing, receiving, groundballs, fly balls and other fundamental skills. There will be time spent on the mental part of the game as well. Players will need to bring tennis shoes, a glove, a bat, sweatpants and a long-sleeve shirt or sweatshirt for working on sliding and diving fundamentals.

Each participant will receive a Dana softball t-shirt included in their fees of $55 for one clinic or $95 for both clinics. The skills clinics are each limited to 50 participants and pitching clinics are limited to 35 participants.
