FEATURE FILM SHOT ON DANA CAMPUS
TO PREMIER ON WB, AUG. 28
Movie shot entirely in Nebraska,
mostly on campus of Dana College in Blair
Dana College is proud to announce that “Full
Ride,” a feature film shot almost entirely on Dana’s
150-acre campus in Blair, Neb., will premiere on the WB television
network on Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. central time.
“Full Ride,” filmed last year at Dana (with some shots
done on the University of Nebraska-Omaha’s Caniglia Football
Field), and in the towns of Blair and Fort Calhoun, was produced
by Omaha-based Oberon Entertainment, with a production staff boasting
some of Nebraska’s finest film-makers.
Dana College — a Lutheran-affiliated, liberal-arts
college with a 118-year history in Blair — was chosen as the
setting of the film for its beautiful campus and sports facilities.
The city of Blair, 30 miles north of Omaha on Highway 133, was also
used for its clean, small-town atmosphere, according to Robert Schmoll,
Dana’s vice president of business affairs.
To celebrate “Full Ride’s” premiere,
Dana will host a watch party for students and community members
in the E.C. Hunt Campus Center, which served as a hospital set in
the movie. Director Mark Hoeger and local actors, including Zach
Barrientos and Rob Kunkel, will watch along with the students at
the party.
“Full Ride” is based on an original story
by former Cornhusker football player George Mills. It follows the
journey of an athletically talented, but misdirected, teen-age boy
who is recruited to play football in a Nebraska all-star bowl game.
His teammates, coaches and a strong-willed young woman change the
direction of his life. A love story develops between the film’s
two stars, Meredith Monroe (“Minority Report,” “Dawson’s
Creek”) and Riley Smith (“Eight Legged Freaks,”
“Raising Dad”).
Omaha venture capital investor Thompson Rogers is
the executive producer, Mark Hoeger directed and produced, and Andy
Anderson (“Citizen Ruth,” “Election”) directed
cinematography and produced. Other Nebraska-connected staffers included
Don Winslow, who worked on the screenplay with Mills and Academy
Award-winner Mike Hill (“A Beautiful Mind”), who was
the editor.
“This is a Nebraska-owned film,” says
Producer Andy Anderson. “The money from the sale of this film,
not just from the production of it, will come back to Nebraska.
We look forward to negotiating video and DVD rights and promoting
the film to other cable outlets. This sale proves that a film financed,
produced and shot in Nebraska is capable of reaching national and
international markets.”
“Full Ride” has also been sold to several
foreign markets, including STARZ-Asia, British Sky Broadcasting
and HBO-Poland.
Dana College Director of Marketing Carrie Reed is excited about
the exposure the film will give to Dana College. “We are always
looking for ways to let area students know that a traditional, liberal-arts
college experience is available to them just 30 miles from Omaha.
We hope that area high school students who see our beautiful campus
in ‘Full Ride’ will then make the short trip to come
see it in person,” Reed said.
Dana College is a private, first-rate liberal arts
institution that currently enrolls approximately 600 students. The
campus is located on 150 picturesque acres overlooking the Missouri
River Valley in Blair, Neb. Dana grants bachelor’s degrees
in more than 20 liberal arts, business, education and pre-professional
programs. The college is affiliated with the Nebraska Synod of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
