Parent’s Advisory Council Minutes
September 22, 2007
Dragons Head
Dana College Campus
Members Present: Lee Ann Jones, Kristine Boardman, Debbie Andrews,
Kay Stockman, Chuck and Donna O’Grady, Mari Ann Winslow, Helen
and Rod Peyton, Christine Zerbst, Tony and Coco Brown, Chris and
David Moffatt, Randy and Barb Jackson, Bob Schmoll.
President LeeAnn Jones called the meeting to order at 10:30. Lee Ann introduced
Bob Schmoll, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Schmoll
will be serving as an advisor for the PAC. Mr. Schmoll introduced Gena Schneider
who is Director of Food Service. Dana has a new food service company this year
and Gena spoke briefly as to what was happening in the food service area. She
also noted that jobs are available if any student is in need of employment.
Parents shared with Jena that they have had many positive comments on the food
this year.
The PAC mission statement was read, (the statement can be found on the website,
in the parents section.) One of the main goals of the PAC is to promote parent
involvement. Lee Ann encouraged all parents to use the parent website. It is
her hope that information will be posted in a timely manner that maybe of interest
to parents.
Parents were asked to share their views and what the PAC has offered to them
as parents to date. Many parents shared that the information packet that they
received was very helpful. The packing list was a big help as well as the question
and answer sessions for parents. It was mentioned that the availability to
get contact LeeAnn directly was also a very warm gesture and appreciated.
During the discussion, it was mentioned that maybe we should suggest to persons
involved in the planning of campus/parent visits, or registration days that
the parents be informed on the daily agenda’s. Many felt that they herd
the same information over and over. This was expressed by parents that attended
all important days with the students. It was also brought to our attention,
the need of the website to be updated. Many felt that the information was old,
and outdated. They also felt it was hard to find things and was not user or
outsider friendly. The executive board will look into these issues and come
up with suggestions to pass on to the proper Dana staff.
Lee Ann explained how the PAC will work this coming year. Meetings of the PAC
(Parents Advisory Council) will be usually in the months of September, November,
January, and April. Meeting dates will be posted on the Dana Website under
the Parent Section. Any parent or adult family member is welcome to attend
any meeting. The Advisory Board will be made-up of the President, President
Elect and Secretary. Parents are encouraged to contact any of the advisory
board members with any concern or comments at any time. They will in turn,
address your concerns with the appropriate member of the Dana College Staff.
