Department of Residence Life Mission
The residence halls at Dana are viewed as living-learning environments.
Residence Life works in cooperation with the educational mission
of the college to provide learning experiences that students might
otherwise not receive in the classroom. Residence Life's primary
responsibility is helping residents obtain the greatest value from
the residential experience. The staff offers assistance with personal
questions or problems; interpreting, communicating, and enforcing
college policy; providing hall programming; advising students on
academic and social concerns; and helping with the security and
safety of living areas.
A Statement on Diversity:
Dana College Residence Life Department is committed to the diversity
with our residence halls and on our campus. This commitment is
demonstrated by respecting others regardless of their ability,
gender, race, creed,
ethnicity, age, national origin, color or veteran status.
Goals:
Build a community where students interact on a regular basis and
share in defining expectations for each other.
Assist residents with their adjustment to living with roommate(s)
and floor/hall residents.
Help residents learn to accept responsibility for self and personal
actions.
Assist with the development of self-management, health and wellness
skills.
Assist with the development of balancing life's pleasures and
responsibilities.
Encourage residents to get involved with and provide leadership
to residential activities.
Work with students to develop a sense of respect for self, others and property.
Help residents learn civility and gain an understanding of diversity.
Resident Assistants are provided with opportunities to enhance and acquire
skills in areas such as: interpersonal communication, organization and
time management,
group/educational programming facilitation, conflict resolution, and leadership
development. The Office of Residential Life Staff provides resident students
with a healthy and safe living and learning environment, supporting the
educational goals of the students and the institution.
