ALUMNA GIVES ONE-HAND LESSONS
Iris (Frey ’78) Doolittle presented a special Piano Music
for One Hand workshop at Dana on April 2. The workshop consisted
of two sessions: one on tips and techniques for writing your own
arrangements for one hand, and one on literature for one hand.
For Doolittle, the topic is one that strikes close to her heart.
After suffering from a stroke at the age of 28, she learned to play
the piano using just her left hand. She currently teaches piano
in Madison, Neb., and performs as the organist at Immanuel Lutheran
Church and in the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, as well as accompanying
for the Madison Middle School choirs.
“Iris is an inspiration to everybody who meets her, and especially
when you hear what beautiful music she can perform with only the
use of one hand,” said Dr. Myrvin Christopherson, president.
“We are very proud of her. Her love of music is contagious.”
