and 0-8 overall. Samanta Alapa was averaging 12.5 points per game
and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Men’s
Basketball
The men were 1-1 in conference play at midseason and
8-8 overall. Dana led the GPAC in offensive rebounds with 37.
Wrestling
At midseason, the grapplers were 3-3 on the season
in duals and ranked 13th in the NAIA. Art Castillo was coming off
a huge win, upsetting 2002 Junior National Champion Ben Askren of
the University of Missouri at the Dana Open.
Softball
There are high expectations for the softball program
this year. The Vikings return every player from their 2002
roster. Some key players to watch are Jessica Bolte, Erica Duncan
and Jennifer Holmes. All three are seniors and expected to
lead the Vikings to their best finish yet. This fall, Dana played
most teams in the conference and finished at the top of every tournament.
Baseball
As the 2003 Dana College baseball team continues preparation
for their season opener, Feb. 15 at Newman University, there is
a quiet confidence in Coach Damon Day’s troops. The Vikings
will be anchored by a talented trio of outfielders led by junior
Chris Zachgo, a left fielder from Delta Junction, Alaska, who was
recently named as a player to watch in the NAIA by Collegiate Baseball
News.
Track
The track team is reloading with four All-Americans
from last year’s squad: Stephanie Collins, Allen Wagner, Matt
Maltby and Tiffany Poole. The team is gaining confidence and
looks to better their performances from a year ago. |
