STUDENT ACCOUNTABILITY TO AGENCY

With regard to all work in the agency, the student is directly responsible to the agency field instructor. The agency is expected to provide the student with a thorough orientation to agency policies and procedures, and the student is expected to follow these policies and procedures just as a professional member of the staff would follow them.

If the student should have to be absent from a day of field work because of illness, the student is responsible for notifying the field instructor. The student is expected to perform as a member of the staff with regard to attendance and needs to keep the field instructor up-dated on all cases through regular conferences so that the field instructor is able to provide back-up support for clients in the event of the student's unavoidable absence.
Accountability regarding confidentiality is of primary importance for the student. The student will have already learned about the critical need for confidentiality before the field practicum, and it is expected that she/he will carefully adhere to its practice.

Recording is another area in which the student is expected to be accountable to the agency. In addition to the recording necessary for learning purposes, the student will need to maintain the types of records used in the agency. For example, students may be responsible for case records, group process records, chart notes and running records, administrative planning records, and correspondence files. Before leaving the agency, the student will be responsible for preparing any transfer or closing summaries normally required for activities in which they have been engaged.
