CRITERIA FOR SELECTING FIELD INSTRUCTORS


ORGANIZATION OF FIELD PRACTICUM



Criteria for Selecting Field Instructors:


1. The instructor's competence with regard to social work skills and ability to teach these skills in a planned, sequential manner. (Although an MSW or BSW degree is normally required, it is acknowledged that many competent helping professionals in both rural and urban settlings do not possess formal credentials. In instances where the field instructor does not possess social work degrees, the Dana College practicum director will work additionally with the student to assure that they receive the social work perspective.)

2. The instructor's commitment to work with students on a planned basis, which includes regular, at least weekly supervisory sessions with the student; helping the student plan and carry out learning experiences which will implement the student's learning plan; and preparing formal, written evaluations of the student's progress as well as participating in on-going informal evaluations.

3. The instructor's motivation to work closely with the college on an on-going basis, including communication, both formal and informal, regarding the student's progress, and attending practicum instructors’ training sessions provided by the social work program.

4. The instructor's commitment to social work ethics and values, including knowledge of and sensitivity to racial, ethnic and other diversity within in their community.
