GUIDELINES FOR ASSIGNMENTS

Suggestions for the organization of assignments are given in the guidelines for assignments found in the appendices of this manual. Obviously, the way in which these guidelines are used depends upon a number of variables, including the organization of the agency, the type of practice experiences available to the student, and the judgment of the field instructor. The timing of the presentation of the various components of the field experience is a delicate matter: the student's readiness to learn clearly facilitates the assimilation of new knowledge, values, and skills, yet there are times when invaluable learning experiences present themselves before they might ideally be made available to the student. Thus, the teaching/learning relationship between the field instructor and the student is of great importance in determining the way in which assignments are structured into the field experience. Consultation with the field director is also a useful tool in planning an optimum presentation of learning experiences.
