RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PRACTICUM AND CONCURRENT SEMINAR

The two field practicum courses are taken concurrently with field seminars. The Integrative Seminar (SW 445) is taken for 3 hours credit concurrently with Practicum I (SW 440), and the Field Seminar (SW 490) is taken for 2 hours credit concurrently with Practicum II (SW 441). Each seminar meets once each week during the semester. Students are expected to prepare for the seminars by bringing matters of interest and concern from the practicum for discussion. During the seminar, these issues will be analyzed in the light of knowledge, values, and skills developed during previous course work: the goal of the seminars is helping the students integrate previous learning with the practicum experience toward the end of becoming competent beginning-level social work practitioners. Assignments will be made as appropriate, so that the content of the seminar will dovetail with the field practicum learning.
