WORKING OUT TIME REQUIREMENT


The student, field instructor, and field director share the responsibility for working out the specific arrangements for the student's schedule. The minimum time requirement for the total field practicum (SW 440 and 441) is 405 clock hours. Students need to work with the practicum director and the field instructor to set up a schedule for meeting the time requirement. Students are required to take the Integrative Seminar (SW 445, 3 hr. cr.) concurrently with Practicum I (SW 440), and they must take the Field Seminar (SW 490, 2 hr. cr.) concurrently with Practicum II (SW 441). Most students will also be taking other courses concurrently with the practicum, especially in the fall semester.


Students have flexibility in the number of hours for which they take the two practicum courses. Practicum I may be taken for 4 to8 hours, while Practicum II may be taken for 5 to 12 hours. Each semester is 14 to 15 weeks long, and each credit hour requires 45 hours of work in the agency. A table of the equivalencies follows:
