Viking Softball Lands Five on Scholar-Athlete Team
The Dana College Sports Information
Office announced on Tuesday afternoon five members of the Viking
Softball team earned Daktronic-NAIA Scholar Athlete Honors. Janez
Anderson is a senior outfielder from Albion, Nebraska majoring in
Special and Elementary Education. Christa Backus is a junior
third baseman and pitcher from Newton, Iowa. Backus is a Sports
Management major with minors in Communications and Business. Josie
Barrow is a junior pitcher and third baseman from Woodward, Iowa.
Barrow is a Criminal Justice major with minors in Spanish and
Sociology. Barrow was also named the GPAC player of the year for the
second straight season and is a two time All-Region III selection.
Sarah Sempek is a senior first baseman from Omaha, Nebraska. Sempek
is an Elementary Education major with an emphasis in Natural Science. She
was an all-conference and region selection this season for the Vikings. Morgan Shields is
a senior catcher from Britt, Iowa. Shields is an Elementary and Special
Education major.
The Vikings finished the season with
a 37-22 overall record. Dana was tied for second in the regular season
GPAC standings and finished runner-up behind Concordia in this seasons
GPAC postseason tournament. The Vikings advanced to the Region III
tournament in Dickinson, North Dakota. The Vikings are coached by
fourth year Head Coach Marcy Roff.
Dana College is a private, Lutheran
college located in Blair, Nebraska. The Vikings are members of the
Great Plains Athletic Conference and the NAIA. Dana College is a place
where all students actively participate.
