Barrow, Sempek Named to All-Region Team

 

The Dana College Sports Information Office announced on Tuesday afternoon two members of the Viking Softball team earned NAIA Region III Honors.  Josie Barrow (JR, Woodward, IA) was named to the Region III team as a utility player.  Barrow was the leading hitter on the Vikings squad this season.  Barrow batted .473 for the season with 18 doubles, 11 home runs, and drove in 41 runs.  She compiled a 12-6 pitching record with a 3.08 earned run average and struck out 101 batters.  This is the second straight year for Barrow to be named to the All-Region team.  Sarah Sempek (SR, Omaha, NE) was named one of the infielders on the All Region team.  Sempek batted .355 this season with 18 doubles and belted seven homeruns.  She also was second on the team with .974 fielding percentage.

 

 “I feel that this is an honor that is a reflection of Josie and Sarah’s hard work and dedication to the softball program at Dana,” commented Head Softball Coach Marcy Roff.  “Both girls are very deserving of this honor and were instrumental in our success this year.”

 

The Vikings finished the season with a 37-22 overall record.  Dana was tied for second in the regular season GPAC standings and finished runner-up behind Concordia in this seasons GPAC postseason tournament.  The Vikings advanced to the Region III tournament in Dickinson, North Dakota.  The Vikings are coached by fourth year Head Coach Marcy Roff.

 

Dana College is a private, Lutheran college located in Blair, Nebraska.  The Vikings are members of the Great Plains Athletic Conference and the NAIA.  Dana College is a place where all students actively participate.
