Dana Softball Win Streak Reaches Five Games

April 2, 2007—The Dana College Softball team defeated Grand View College in Des Moines two times on Friday and Hastings College in Blair two times on Sunday to up their win streak to five games.

            On Friday, Dana won 7-6 and 11-1.  In game one Sarah Sempek (SR, Omaha, NE) doubled in the top of the seventh inning to drive in two runs and give the Vikings a 7-6 lead.  Winning pitcher Josie Barrow (JR, Woodward, IA) shut down Grand View in the seventh to preserve the win.  Barrow and Beth Richmond (SO, Chariton, IA) both had two hits for Dana.

            In game two, the Vikings jumped out to a commanding lead scoring six runs and five hits in the first inning.  Barrow and Sempek had two hits in the game.  Richmond hit a home run.  Winning pitcher Cassie Lager (JR, Missouri Valley, IA) only gave up 1 run while striking out six in six innings.

            On Sunday, Dana defeated GPAC foe Hastings College 5-1 and 8-1.  In game one lead off hitter Heather Parsons (SR, Ottumwa, IA) went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s.  Apryle Groteluschen (SR, Columbus,  NE) smacked a home run for the Vikings.  Josie Barrow was the winning pitcher giving up only 4 hits in seven innings.

            Barrow, Lindy Bohlman (JR, Missouri Valley, IA) and Richmond all hit home runs for Dana in game two.  Winning pitcher Cassie Lager only gave up 1 run while striking out six Bronco hitters.

            The Vikings who raised their record to 15-12 (3-1 GPAC) will next be in action at home versus Sioux Falls on April 5.
