Newsham to become a Viking
Blair, Nebraska ~ The Dana College Softball team announced
Thursday the signing of Whitney Newsham of Ashland, Nebraska. Newsham
is a senior pitcher at Ashland-Greenwood High School.
Last season at Ashland-Greenwood, Newsham garnered all-conference
and all-state honors.
“ Whitney is a tremendous athlete with unbelievable
foot speed,” commented Head Coach Marcy Roff. “She
gets a great read on the ball which enables her to be versatile
on the field.”
Coach Roff expects Newsham to compete for time at SS and Outfield
next year. Roff feels Newsham will be an immediate impact
in the program in many ways. |
“
Whitney has the ability to hit for power and crack out the short
game, which is a huge asset with her speed. We are ecstatic
to add Whitney to our softball family and look forward to having
her in the
fall,” added Coach Roff.
Last season, the Vikings finished
43-10 overall and 20-2 in the GPAC. Dana
won the regular and past season titles. Coach Roff advanced
to the regional tournament before bowing out to Valley City State. Roff
is entering her fourth season at the helm of the Viking ship.
