Dana Loses First Two Games of Spring Break Trip

Orange, California—The Dana Softball team lost two close games on the opening day of their spring break road trip.  Dana fell 3-2 to Cal-State San Marcos and 5-4 to St. Thomas (MN) in Orange, California.

            In game one, Dana took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth when Cal-State San Marcos scored two unearned runs to take a 3-2 lead that they never relinquished.  Dana’s Sarah Sempek (SR, Omaha, NE) went 1-3 with an RBI.  Beth Richmond (SO, Chariton, IA) recorded Dana’s other RBI.  Losing pitcher Josie Barrow (JR, Woodward, IA) gave up 7 hits.  All three San Marcos runs were unearned.

            Game two again saw the Vikings unable to hold the lead.  The Vikings took a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning only to give up three runs in the inning to fall 5-4.  There were two outs when a St. Thomas hitter doubled bringing in the final two runs. 

            Sarah Sempek gave the Vikings a 3-0 lead in the third inning belting a three run home run.  Dana scored a single run in the fifth while giving up runs to St. Thomas in the fourth and fifth innings before the three run seventh.

            The Vikings are currently 1-1 in conference play and 6-8 overall this season.  Dana is scheduled to play California Baptist, who is currently rated number one in the latest NAIA poll, on Monday afternoon.
