Five Vikings Named to All-Conference Softball Team

Blair, Nebraska ~ The 2008 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Softball All-Conference team has been announced after a vote of league coaches.  This year’s GPAC All-Conference Team consists of a first-team, second-team, and an honorable mention list.  Dana College landed three players on the first team, one on the second team, and one on the honorable mention team.

The three Vikings on the first team are Josie Barrow (SR, Woodward, IA), Cassie Lager (SR, Missouri Valley, IA) and Page Brune (JR, Dodge, NE).  Barrow, a senior infielder, is a repeat selection on the first team.  She led the Vikings with a .330 batting average with one homerun, five stolen bases, and 15 RBI’s.  Brune, the Viking catcher, started 40 games and batted .265 with a team high seven homeruns and 29 RBI’s.  She also had a .987 fielding percentage.  Lager, a pitcher, was the anchor for the GPAC top pitching rotation.  She posted a 1.22 Earned Run Average with an 11-4 record.  Lager also struck out 112 batters in just 108 innings.

Maggie Downs (SR, St. Charles, IA) earned second team honors.  Downs, an infielder, was the second leading hitter on the Viking team with a .298 average and led the team with 16 stolen bases.  TJ Beeman (SR, Grimes, IA) was tabbed to the Honorable Mention team.  Beeman, an infielder, started 28 games and had a .283 average.

The Vikings are currently 24-18 on the season and finished 15-9 in the GPAC.  Head Coach Marcy Roff is in her fifth season at the helm of the Dana College Softball program.  Dana College is a private, Lutheran college located in Blair, Nebraska.  They participate in the Great Plaines Athletic Conference and a member of the NAIA.  Dana College is a place where all students actively participate.
