Students with questions regarding application procedures,
renewal of financial aid, and the types of aid available should first
refer to the college catalog. Additional copies of the catalog are
available in the Registrar’s Office. If the catalog does not
answer all questions, students are encouraged to visit the Financial
Aid Office. While not always required, it is helpful to call to make
an appointment in advance.
The reference section of the College Library (378.3) contains a number of scholarship
books, which will help identify additional sources of financial aid. By checking
the index of each book one can identify the chapter or sections to refer to
for scholarships, grants, and loans.
Because not all financial aid is renewed automatically, students must complete
a new application each year. The priority deadline for financial aid is March
15th. By getting your financial aid applications (institutional and FAFSA)
to the Financial Aid Office by March 15th, you will ensure the best possible
financial aid package for yourself. You may now apply for Federal financial
aid on the Internet at www. Fafsa.ed.gov. When applying for Federal financial
aid for the 2003-2004 academic year, the earliest you may submit your application
is January 1, 2003.
When you receive your financial aid award some of the aid may be estimated.
The Business Office will not credit your student account until all requested
information is provided and reviewed. The college may revoke any aid previously
awarded when a student no longer meets the requirements to receive such aid.
If either students or parent(s) plan to apply for a loan, a separate application
is required. This is a different process than applying for grants or scholarships.
The Financial Aid Office has all the appropriate application forms. Students
should generally allow at least three weeks for loan applications to be processed.
To be permitted to work on campus, "Campus Employment" funds must
be included in a student’s award letter. Students who take campus jobs
without having been given Campus Employment in their financial aid package
may jeopardize other financial aid that had already been awarded for the year.
Students may be required to discontinue working until funds become available.
Students who are concerned about being able to continue at Dana
for financial reasons, or if something significant occurs during
the year which affects a
student and/or his/her family’s ability to pay for school (i.e., large
or unexpected medical expenses, loss of job or child support, or divorce or
separation) should contact the Financial Aid Office immediately. In certain
cases and with sufficient notice, the office may be able to identify additional
funds or other ways which would make it possible for the student to continue
and complete his/her education at Dana College.
