Policies dealing with fire safety are literally "life and death" matters. Everyone at Dana College must take the policies regarding this area with the utmost seriousness. Anyone violating these policies is subject to possible prosecution from both the college and local authorities. In addition, individuals can be legally liable for other civil and criminal negligence should a fire or other related problem occur.
Certain doors are designated for "Emergency Exit Only." These doors are clearly identified, and are to be used only in cases of a true emergency, such as a fire, fire drill, tornado, etc. Students who violate the "emergency exit only" restriction will be subject to disciplinary action, including a monetary fine of not less than $50.00.

Fire safety equipment, including extinguishers, exit signs, fire doors, and smoke alarms should be in working order at all times. Tampering with these safety devices is a violation of state law and can endanger lives and property. Individuals found to be responsible for such actions as pulling fire alarms, dispensing fire extinguishers, and disabling smoke detectors will be dealt with severely, including possible criminal prosecution. Campus sanctions for pulling fire alarms and improper use of fire extinguishers include a minimum $100.00 fine.

Whenever a fire alarm or emergency exit alarm sounds in a residence hall, all persons occupying a building must immediately exit. The residence hall staff will check to ensure that all occupants and guests have exited the building. Anyone not properly vacating a building after the sounding of an alarm will be subject to a $50.00 fine.
