Dana is a residential college. It is one of the defining characteristics of what we are as an educational institution. Students choosing to attend Dana should consider what this will mean to them, not only as they enter, but also as they continue through to degree completion.

Dana College believes the process of living in a college residence hall provides an added value to the college experience that might not otherwise occur. Research has clearly shown that being part of a residential environment has a positive influence on both academic success and persistence in the completion of a bachelor’s degree.

Students who live in residence halls have consistently been shown to have more peer interaction, greater involvement in co-curricular activities, and assume more leadership responsibilities, all of which contribute significantly toward a student’s personal development. Students who live on campus also do better academically.

In support of this philosophy, the residence halls at Dana College are specifically designed to serve as living-learning environments, places where opportunities to experience academic, social, spiritual, and personal growth are encountered daily. The residence halls are intended to create settings for students to study, socialize, establish friendships, learn about themselves and how to interact with others, develop a sense of community, and gain a deeper understanding of how to apply the principles of Christian living on a day-to-day basis.

The Residence Life Staff – Resident Assistants, Assistant Hall Directors, Area Hall Directors, Director of Residence Life, and Dean of Students – all exist to help residents obtain the greatest value from the residential experience. The staff is a significant link between the students and other college personnel. The staff’s purpose is to offer assistance to students by interpreting, communicating, and enforcing college policy; providing hall programming; advising students on academic and social concerns; and protecting the security and safety of living areas.
