Relay Teams Lead Dana at Conference
Seward, Nebraska ~ The Dana College Track teams
took to the conference meets a week later than expected. Last weeks
GPAC meet was washed out due to severe storms that hit Nebraska and
Iowa. Dana College
men’s team finished eighth, while the women’s team placed 13th.
The Viking men’s
team produced four All-Conference performers. Andrew Hawley (FR,
Lincoln, NE) gave the Vikings their top individual finish in the meet.
Hawley placed fourth in the 100 meter dash. Robert Fowler (JR,
Bellevue, NE) placed seventh in the 100meter dash. John Kaup
(SR, Grand Island, NE) placed fifth in the 10,000meter run. Eric
Bane (JR, Oakland, IA) placed eighth in the steeple chase. Three out
of the four relay teams placed for Dana College. The Viking 4x100m
relay team had the best finish on the afternoon. The 4x100 relay team
consisting of Fowler, Nathan Wilson (FR, Springfield, NE),
Kiel Montgomery (SO, Indianola, IA), and Hawley took third place and
broke the Dana College record they set at Kip Javrin Classic. The team
has also provisionally qualified for nationals with a time of 42.21
seconds. The men’s and women’s 4x800m relay teams placed at
conference. The women’s team finished with a seventh place and scored
the teams only points in the meet. The women’s 4x800 meter team
consisted of Christina Bailey (FR, Omaha, NE), Chelsea Fibranz
(FR, McPherson, KS), Amy Jackman (SO, Seward, NE) , and
Tabitha Kabala (JR, Davenport, IA). The men’s team finished eighth
with a time of 8:16.69 minutes. The 4x800meter relay team consisted of
Kevin Bane (SO, Oakland, IA), Bryson Pascua (FR, Mililani,
HI), Andrew Tramp (FR, Falls City, NE), and Andrew Palmdale
(FR, Hastings, NE). The men’s 4x400m team just missed placing, but
ran a personal best for the season with a time of 3:26.61 minutes. The
4x400 team included Montgomery, Wilson, Hawley, and Pascua.
“It was a great team
effort and one of our better out puts in a conference meet in sometime,”
commented Head Track Coach Allen Friesen. “It was nice to see points
coming from several different events. It is good sign for the future of
our track program.”
