Magorian Sets Viking Track Record
The Dana College track teams traveled to Storm Lake, Iowa this weekend to take part in the Buena Vista NAIA Challenge. Pat Magorian (FR, Crofton, NE) broke the Dana College weight throw record with a toss of 42 feet 11.75 inches. His toss placed him 14th in the event. The Viking throwers once again showed well. Chase Trecek (FR, Bellevue, NE) placed in the top five for the second straight meet. Trecek came in fifth place with a throw of 15.02 meters. Beau Viegutz (SO, Norfolk, NE) placed eighth with a throw of 13.76 meters. The Dana distance Medley team placed third with a time of 11:07.95 minutes. The relay consisted of Andrew Tramp (FR, Falls City, NE), Kevin Bane (SO, Oakland, IA), Keil Montgomery (SO, Indianola, IA), and Bryson Pascua (FR, Mililani, HI). Eric Bane (JR, Oakland, IA) placed seventh in the 5000 meter run with a time of 16:20.82. Andrew Palmdale (FR, Hastings, NE) gave the Vikings an eighth place finish with a time of 9:56.72 minutes in the 3000 meter run. Cory Logsdon (FR, Omaha, NE) gave Dana a top ten finish in the one mile run. Logsdon came in eighth place with a time of 4:43.51 minutes. Andrew Hawley (FR, Lincoln, NE) put together a fourth place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.44 seconds. Hawley also put together a fourth place finish in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.71 seconds. His time was .35 seconds behind champion Paulvince Obuon of Doane. “This was the second straight meet that Andrew (Hawley) has dropped his time in both the 55 meter and 200 meter dash,” said Head Coach Allen Friesen. “We also were able to put together two relay teams in the same meet for the first time since I have been head coach.” Nichelle Kimbrough (SR, Highland, KS) placed eighth in the women’s long jump. Kimbrough leapt 4.80 meters. Jennifer Anderson (JR, Lincoln, NE) put in a tenth place finish in the 5000 meters with a time of 20:59.02 minutes. Chelsea Fibranz (FR, McPherson, KS) placed fourth in the 1000 meter run with a time of 3:18.94 minutes. Christina Bailey (SO, Farragut, IA) gave the Vikings a tenth place finish in the 800 meter dash. Bailey turned in a time of 2:39.26 minutes. Dana also sent two throwers to the Wild Cat Open in Wayne, Nebraska. Santana Hildebrand (JR, Waukee, IA) placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 36 feet 4 inches. Hildebrand also placed ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 34 feet 2 inches. Lewis Hackbart (SR, Hebron, NE) placed seventh in the men’s shot put with a throw of 38 feet 8.75 inches. “Lewis has a good meet at Wayne State,” added Coach Friesen. “His toss of 38 feet 8.75 inches was his personal best here at Dana College.”
Coach Friesen added that both teams look to be peaking in the next couple weeks. If the teams remain fairly healthy, they should fair well in the GPAC meet in Lincoln on February 24.
The Vikings will take part in the Prairie Wolf Open in Lincoln, Nebraska next Friday. The start time has not yet been released. The GPAC meet will be at the Bob Daveny Center on the campus of the University of Nebraska in Lincoln on February 24.
