Trecek, Hildebrand Lead Vikings
Sioux Center, Iowa ~ The Dana College track team was lead by several great individual performances on Saturday afternoon at the Dordt College Track Invitational. Santana Hildebrand (SO, West Des Moines, IA) and Chase Trecek (FR, Bellevue, NE) placed in the top three in the shot put at the Dordt College Invitational. Trecek placed third with a toss of 49 feet 7.75 inches in the men’s division. Hildebrand came in second with a throw of 36 feet 11 inches.
Hildebrand and Trecek were not the only high placers for the Vikings. Several members of the track team dotted the leader boards over the weekend. The women’s side had nine athletes place in the top ten of their events. The men’s side had 14 athletes place in the top ten. Tina Castle (SO, Farragut, IA) placed eighth in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:49.38 minutes. Jennifer Anderson (JR, Lincoln, NE) gave the Vikings a top five performance in the 3000 meter run. Anderson placed fifth with a time of 11:50.92 minutes. Nichelle Kimbrough (SR, Highland, KS) then gave the Vikings two top five performances in the Long Jump and Triple Jump. Kimbrough placed second in the triple jump with a hop, jump, and skip of 32 feet 1 inch. Then she turned out a forth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet 4.25 inches. Robert Fowler (SO, Bellevue, NE) gave the men’s team a top five finish in the 55 meter dash. Fowler placed fifth with a time of 6.80 seconds. Andrew Hawley (FR, Lincoln, NE) placed forth in the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.73 seconds. The Dana distance crew gave the Vikings several top five finishes. Cory Logsdon (FR, Omaha, NE) placed 4th in the one mile run with a time of 4:45.46 minutes. Brothers Eric (JR) and Kevin (SO) Bane (Oakland, IA) place sixth and seventh respectively in the one mile run with times of 4:51.75 and 4:52.24 minutes respectively. Kiel Montgomery (SO, Indianola, IA) placed forth in the 400 meter run with a time of 53.47 seconds. Nathan Wilson (FR, Springfield, NE) placed forth in the long jump with a distance of 19 feet 11 inches. Chase Trecek placed third in the shot put. Jeremy Havener (SR, Clarinda, IA) followed closely with a toss of 46 feet 1.5 inches. “We had a strong performance from the track team this weekend at Dordt College Invite,” commented Head Men’s Track Coach Allen Friesen. “Over all our kids competed great I was very proud of the effort they gave. We still some things to work on for next meet at Buena Vista but if we carry over the same effort we should achieve even better results.”
The Viking harriers will travel to Storm Lake, Iowa next weekend to participate in the Buena Vista Invitational. Opening gun is scheduled for 9:00 am on February 9.
