Trecek and Hildebrand Lead Vikings at GPAC Meet
Lincoln, NE ~ The Dana College men’s and women’s track teams traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska to take part in the Great Plains Athletic Conference track meet. Chase Trecek (FR, Bellevue, NE) and Santana Hildebrand (SO, West Des Moines, IA) each garnered All-Conference honors.
Santana Hildebrand scored the only two points for the women’s track team in the shot put. Hildebrand placed seventh in the shot put event with a toss of 38 feet 7.5 inches. Chase Trecek scored the lone points for the men’s track team in the shot put. Trecek placed seventh with a throw of 48 feet 1.75 inches. Jeremy Havener (SR, Clarinda, IA) finished in ninth place in the shot with a throw of 46 feet 7.25 inches. Beau Viergutz (SO, Norfolk, NE) also placed in the top ten in the shot put with a throw of 46 feet. Eric Bane (JR, Oakland, IA) placed tenth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 16:13.6 minutes. Andrew Hawley (FR, Lincoln, NE) gave the Vikings a top ten finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.71 seconds. John Kaup (SR, Grand Island, NE) placed ninth in the 3000 meter run with a time of 9:06.8 minutes. The l men’s 4x400 meter relay team. The relay came in tenth place with a time of 3:29.67 minutes. Members of the relay team were Andrew Hawley, Kevin Bane (SO, Oakland, IA), Bryson Pascua (FR, Mililani, HI), and Andrew Tramp (FR, Falls City, NE).
Santana Hildebrand competed in the Last Chance Throwers Open at Midland Lutheran in Fremont, Nebraska on Sunday afternoon. Even though, she did not qualify for nationals, Hildebrand did break the Dana College weight throw record. The previous record was 41 feet 7.25 inches by Andrea Spreen set in 1996. The new record is now 45 feet 8.5 inches. Coach Allen Friesen also set a personal best in the weight throw with a distance of 31 feet 5 inches.
The indoor season for the Vikings is now complete. The track team is now preparing for the indoor season, which opens up on March 31st at home with the Neil Moore Open.
