Vikings Track Earn Five All-Conference Honors

Blair, Nebraska ~ The Dana College track teams came away from Saturday’s GPAC Track Championships with five All-Conference Honors.  The Vikings had three individual performers with top five finishes.

Cory Logsdon (SO, Ft. Calhoun, NE) placed fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase event with a time of 9:46.24 minutes.  He was 6.24 seconds behind a provisional qualification for the national meet.  Roger Goff (SO, Missouri Valley, IA) placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 175 feet 1 inch.  Megan Higgins (FR, Council Bluffs, IA) placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 40 feet 3.5 inches.  Terrence Almond (SR, Pelham, GA) earned all-conference honors with a seventh place finish in the triple jump.  Almond covered a distance of 44 feet 4 inches.  Dana’s 4x100 meter relay team placed sixth with a time of 43.89 seconds.  The 4x100 team was comprised of Robert Fowler (JR, Bellevue, NE), Andrew Hawley (SO, Lincoln, NE), Terrence Almond, and Brandon Terry (JR, Omaha, NE).

Dana finished in tenth place on the men’s side with a total of 15 points, while the women finished 12th with five points.  The Vikings will send a small contingent of athletes to the Concordia Last-Chance Meet next weekend.  The NAIA National Track Meet will be held at Ralph Kotre Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri on May 22-24.

Coach Friesen’s Corner

“We had several good performances again in the GPAC Championships, the majority of them coming from the throwers. Brandon Terry ran his fastest 100 meter time and our 4x400 relay ran a 7 second personal best.  It goes to show how tough our conference really is when you have so many athletes having a great day, but don’t make it to finals to score points. I know most of the kids felt good about their performances, I hope this motivates them for next year.”
