Viking Track Competes at Kip Janvrin Open
Blair, Nebraska ~
The Viking track teams travelled to Indianola, Iowa
to take part in the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson College. Dana competed
against several top quality NCAA Division I, II and III teams. The
Viking athletes braved the cold, rainy, and windy weather to put up
several solid performances
Laura Waller
(FR, Omaha, NE) placed 16th in the pole vault
with a vault of 9 feet ¼ inches. Leanna Kalvelage (SO,
Plainview, NE) placed 17th in the javelin with a throw of 85
feet. Amy Jackman (SO, Seward, NE) placed 30th in the
400 meter hurdles with a time of 75.82 seconds. Jackman’s time set her
own personal best by over five seconds.

a time of 23.75 seconds. He also placed 14th in the 400
meter dash with a time of 52.76 seconds. Cory Logsdon (SO, Ft.

44.33 seconds. The 4x400 meter relay team placed fifth with a time of
3:36.11 minutes. Chase Trecek (SO, Bellevue, NE) placed seventh

Coach Friesen’s Corner
“Despite the awful weather again we
had some decent performances. Amy Jackman had a 5 sec Persnal Best in
the 400 meter hurdles, which is impressive considering the wind she ran
in. Cale Deardorff took ninth in the discus with a Personal Best of
141-05.00. The top male finished for the Vikings was Chase Trecek who
placed seventh in the shot.”
“It has been a very cold outdoor
season; the weather has made it difficult to achieve any type of good
marks. Most of the kids have one more week (GPAC) to get it done and
improve. It will be a test of our character this week.”
The track team will compete this
weekend in Sioux City, Iowa at the GPAC Championships.
