Track Travels to South Dakota

The Dana College track teams traveled to the Bill Hillenbrand Invite in Vermillion, S.D.  Saturday. The Vikings competed against several NCAA Division II teams.  Dana had four individuals and a relay team place in the top ten in the meet.

Megan Higgins (FR, Council Bluffs, Iowa) led the Vikings women’s team with a seventh place finish in the shot put.  Higgins had a throw of 11.96 meters.

Andrew Hawley (SO, Lincoln, Neb.) placed eighth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.34 seconds.  Hawley also placed ninth in the 60-meter dash in 7.33 seconds.  Freshman Jeremy Barrera (Round Rock, Texas) continued his impressive season with a fifth place finish in the 60-meter hurdles in 5.56 seconds.  He also placed 7th in the long jump with a leap of 13.13 meters. 

Dana’s distance medley team placed seventh with a time of 11:26.45 minutes.  The team is made up of Josh McConico (FR, Bonner Springs, Kan.), Dan Staehlin (Omaha, NE), Andrew Palmblade (FR, Omaha, Neb.), and Justin Nielsen (FR, Hastings, Neb.). 

The Vikings 4 x 800 meter relay squad finished in fourth place with a time of 8:52.12.  The 4x800 relay team was comprised of McConico, Nielsen, Staehlin, and Chris Creal (FR, Omaha, Neb.)

“I was pleased with our performance this weekend,” said Head Coach Allen Friesen.  “We competed against larger schools and we did a great job.”

Dana will compete at the Iowa State Open Jan. 25-26.
