Viking Volleyball Struggles; Loses to Northwestern, Mount Marty

October 9, 2006

The Dana Volleyball team struggled over the weekend losing two conference matches.  On Friday night, the Vikings were defeated by nationally ranked 22-1 Northwestern College 3-0 (30-19, 30-18, 30-14).  On Saturday afternoon the Vikings lost a heart-breaker to Mount Marty College 3-2 (30-21, 30-22, 24-30, 21-30, 13-15).  The losses drop the Viking’s record to 5-15 (1-6 GPAC).

In Friday night’s game, the Red Raiders came out strong and Dana was never able to mount much of a charge.  Dana’s Kali Brayfield (FR, Elkhorn, NE) led the Vikings with 8 kills and 2 blocks.

On Saturday, the Vikings played well early winning the first two sets of the match 30-21 and 30-22.  Mount Marty came back to win the third set 30-24 and kept the momentum to the end defeating Dana in the fifth and decisive set 15-13.  Brayfield once again played well for the Vikings tallying 9 kills, 6 ace serves, and 2 blocks.  Darcy Gross (SR, Earling, IA) contributed 13 kills and 2 blocks for Dana.

The Vikings next action is at #20 Doane College (20-5, 7-2 GPAC) on October 11 at 7:30 PM.
