Fremont, NE—The Dana volleyball team
went on the road to Midland Lutheran College and came away with their
first conference win of the season in a hard-fought 27-30, 34-32,
30-21, 26-30, 15-4 win over the Warriors. The win raised Dana’s
record to 5-8 (1-2 in the GPAC). The Warriors fell to 3-11
(0-4).
Viking coach Rayna Cain seemed relieved after
the match was completed. “Midland was a very scrappy
team, so it was hard for us to put the ball away. We kept on
the attack and got the job done,” Coach Cain said. Cain
was also very happy about getting a win in the GPAC. “It
was a great conference win,” she said.
The Vikings struggled to find a rhythm early in
the match losing the first set and rallying to win the second set,
but managed to dominate the fifth set of the match.
Dana was once again led by senior middle hitter
Darcy Gross (Earling, IA) and junior setter Holly Lehmer (Omaha,
NE). Gross finished with 21 kills while Lehmer had a season
high 43 set assists. Lacie Greiner (Boone, IA) also contributed
12 kills for the Vikings while junior Kira Presler (Omaha, NE) was
impressive with 5 ace serves and 12 digs on the night.
Dana’s next opponent will be Hastings College
on Wednesday, September 27. The game will be in Hastings as
7:30 PM.
