Vikings 1-1 on Week

The Dana College volleyball team split a pair of home matches last week.  Dana defeated Grace University 3-0 (30-22, 30-22, 30-23) and lost 2-3 to Hastings College.

Lacie Greiner (SO, Boone, IA) led the Vikings with 12 kills on the evening.  Danielle Neville (FR, Grand Island, NE) added eight kills.  April Fitch (FR, Creighton, NE) and Kali Brayfield (SO, Elkhorn, NE) contributed six and seven kills apiece.  Nichole Elwood (SO, Fremont, NE) dished out 28 set assists.  Brayfield and Greiner had four and three service aces apiece to earn Dana some free points.  Kira Presler (SR, Omaha, NE) led the Vikings with 14 defensive digs.  Casey Smith (FR, Yutan, NE) added 11 digs.  Brayfield also added one solo and seven block assists in the sweep.

Dana looked to pull an upset on Thursday evening as one of the top GPAC teams, Hastings College, rolled into town.  Dana came out on fire, sweeping the first two games of the match 30-26 and 30-28.  The Vikings could not hold the momentum as they dropped the final three games 18-30, 11-30, and 11-15.  Kali Brayfield and Danielle Neville once again led the Dana attack with 20 and 10 kills each.  Nichole Elwood kept the offense running by dishing out 41 assists on the night.  Casey Smith played well defensively awhile posting a team high 17 digs.  Lacie Greiner helped on the defensive end with 16 digs.  Brayfield also helped on the defensive side by adding one solo block and five block assists.

The Vikings travel to Lincoln, Nebraska on October 17 to face Nebraska Wesleyan (13-8, 4-5).  Dana will also travel to Sioux Center, Iowa to square off against Dordt College (25-6, 6-4) on October 19 and then host Briar Cliff (18-7, 8-2) on October 20.
