Dana Drops a Pair of GPAC Matches

 

The Dana College volleyball team continued to struggle as their season winds down.  The Vikings dropped a home match to Midland Lutheran 22-30, 27-30 and 20-30 on Wednesday evening.  Dana traveled to nationally rated Northwestern on Saturday was defeated 15-30, 16-30, and 16-30.

 

Dana was close in every game against Midland, but could not pull out a game in the match.  The Vikings found themselves on the wrong end of 10 Warrior ace serves.  Kali Brayfield (SO, Elkhorn, Neb.) had a team-high 11 kills.  Danielle Neville (FR, Grand Island, Neb.) had six.  Stephanie Connell (FR, Omaha, Neb.) dished out 24 set assists for the match.  Neville and Casey Smith (FR, Yutan, Neb.) had 11 defensive digs apiece.  Brayfield also had five block assists.

 

The Viking offense could not get on track against nationally rated foe Northwestern.  Dana was hurt by 24 serve receive errors on the night. Neville led the team with six kills.  April Fitch (FR, Creighton, Neb.) had five kills.  Nichole Elwood (SO, Fremont, Neb.) dished out 18 set assists on the night.  Casey Smith (FR, Yutan, Neb.), Beth Peal (FR, Omaha, Neb.), and Lacie Greiner (SO, Boone, Iowa) each had two service aces.  Smith and Elwood led the team with 10 and eight defensive digs respectively.  

 

The Vikings are now 8-24 on the year and 1-15 in GPAC play.  Dana was scheduled to play its final match of the year on Tuesday night at Doane.
