Volleyball Drops Three Straight
The Dana College volleyball team dropped three
straight conference matches last week. The Vikings dropped a 3-0
(30-22, 30-13, 30-24) decision at Nebraska Wesleyan on Wednesday
evening. Dana then dropped a 3-0 (30-18, 30-18, 30-9) match at Dordt
College on Friday. The Vikings played their third game in four days on
Saturday against Briar Cliff. The Chargers took advantage of a weary
Viking squad 3-0 (30-22, 30-26, 30-22) at home.
On Wednesday night, Dana was led offensively by
Lacie Greiner (SO, Boone, Iowa) with 10 kills. April Fitch
(FR, Creighton, Neb.) added nine kills, while Kali Brayfield (SO,
Elkhorn, Neb.) and Danielle Neville (FR, Grand Island, Neb.) each
added seven. Nichole Elwood (SO, Fremont, Neb.) continued her
solid floor leadership as she earned 30 set assists.
Four Vikings had double-digit defensive digs.
Casey Smith (FR, Yutan, Neb.) led the team with 13 digs. Elwood
also helped on the defensive end with one solo block and two block
assists.
The Viking offense did not get going against the
tough Dordt Defender squad. Neville and Brayfield each had a team-high
seven kills. Fitch had six kills. Elwood had only 17 set assists.
Neville and Smith led the team with seven defensive digs. Brayfield was
also credited with one block and two block assists.
Dana put up a fight against Briar Cliff on Saturday
afternoon, but could not overcome 28 attacking errors. Brayfield and
Greiner each had a team-high 10 kills. Elwood had 35 set assists.
Brayfield had a team high-two service aces and eight block assists. The
Vikings had a season-high 69 defensive digs, led by Melissa Bokemper
(SR, Winside, Neb.) who had 15.
The Vikings are now 8-21 on the year and 1-12 in
GPAC play. Dana hosted rival Midland Lutheran on Wednesday
Dana will travel to Orange City, Iowa, on Saturday
to play Northwestern College. The JV game is slated for 6 p.m. and
varsity will start at 7:30 p.m.
