Blair,
Nebraska ~ The Dana College volleyball team dropped a pair of
conference matches over the weekend.
Dana lost a 3-0 decision to fifteenth rated Morningside College
25-14, 25-13, 25-15. On
Saturday, Dana dropped a five set match to Dakota Wesleyan 3-2 (25-16,
20-25, 25-19, 25-23, 19-17)/
On Friday, Dana travelled to Sioux City, Iowa to
square off against Morningside College. The fifteenth rated Mustangs
feature two transfer players from NCAA Division I and II programs.
Megan Higgins (SO,
Council Bluffs, Iowa) led the Vikings with six kills on 18 attempts.
Kali Brayfield (JR,
Elkhorn, Iowa) and Stephanie
Connell (SO, Harlan, Iowa) each had four kills.
Connell also had five defensive digs and seven set assists.
Nichole Elwood (SR, Fremont, Neb.) led the team with eight set
assists.
Dana travelled to Mitchell, South Dakota on
Saturday to face off against Dakota Wesleyan University.
The Vikings looked to make quick work of the Tigers with a 25-16
first set win. DWU rallied
to take games two and four 25-20 and 25-23.
The fifth set was a back-and-forth battle, but the Tigers clawed
their way to a 19-17 win.
Kali Brayfield led Dana with 18 kills, two blocks, and five block
assists. Lacie Greiner had
17 kills. Megan Higgins
added 11 kills. Stephanie
Connell had 37 set assists, two service aces, and 16 defensive digs.
Erin Shanahan (SO,
Omaha, Neb.) had 16 defensive digs and four aces.
Nicole Venditte (JR,
Omaha, Neb.) had one service aces and 11 defensive digs.
Amberly Heslinga (SO,
Shenandoah, Iowa) had 11 digs.
The Vikings are now 11-12 overall and 2-4 in
conference play. Morningside
is in second place in the GPAC standings with a 6-1 record and 20-3
overall. Dakota Wesleyan
improved to 10-11 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Dana travels to Seward, Nebraska on Wednesday to play Concordia.
The Bulldogs are 4-15 overall and 1-5 in conference.
