Vikings Fall on the Road

January 17, 2007

Hastings, Nebraska ~ The Dana College Women’s Basketball team traveled to Hastings College on Wednesday evening.  The defending national champions were not gracious hosts as they defeated the Vikings 71-34

Hastings opened the game on a 10-5 run.  The Broncos took advantage of a terrible shooting night by the Vikings.  Dana would be able to pull within three points as Allie Lamb (SO, North English, IA) hit a jumper in the lane at the 13:14 mark in the first half.  Dana would get no closer as the hosts went on a 25-11 spurt.  Megan Gerdes (FR, Treynor, IA) stopped the run by draining a three-pointer.  The Broncos would maintain their momentum as the half ended and went into the locker room with a 41-20 lead.

The Vikings shooting woes continued into the second half as stretched their lead to 33 points midway through the half.  The Vikings shot only 26.3-percent in the second half and turned the ball over 14 times.  Those two factors are not the recipe for success.

Jillian Bryant (FR, McCook, NE) was the lone Viking in double digits with ten points.  Amy Nichol (JR, Des Moines, IA) was help to five points.  Amanda Bryant (SO, Treynor, IA) pulled down a game high four rebounds for Dana.

The loss drops Dana to 9-10 overall and 2-8 in GPAC play.  The schedule does not get easier for the Vikings as Morningside College comes to Blair on Saturday.  The reserve game is scheduled to tip-off at 10:00am and the varsity will play at 2:00pm.
